1971 Lotus Europa Twin-Cam
Finished in the Iconic John Player Special colours of black with gold detail.
Designed by Ron Hickman, who also designed the original Lotus Elan, the Europa was original conceived as the Lotus design bid for the now legendary GT40. Launched in 1966 and originally powered by a 4 cylinder Renault 14 derived engine and gearbox. In 1971 the Type 74 Lotus Europa Twin Cam arrived and featured the more powerful Lotus-Ford twin cam which was already being used in the Lotus Elan.
This particular example is one of the early Twin Cam models produced by Lotus Cars in November 1971. In 1981 the car was returned to the Lotus factory and totally stopped back to the gel coat and refinished in the Iconic JPS colour scheme that it wears today. The invoice is on file totalling nearly £3,500, an eye watering sum of money in 1981. The engine was later rebuilt by leading Lotus Authority Paul Matty Sports Cars. It was built to give a higher output than standard with a Special specification Big Valve cylinder head.
