Interesting history with known provenance from new and a low number of owners.

Supplied new by Fairfield BMW of Leigh on Sea on 6th March 1974 to a local Mr R J Horsley. Mr Horsley owned the car for around 1o years and covered most of the mileage shown on the odometer. During his ownership he sent the car to Legendary Alpina works driver and UK Alpina specialist Brian ‘Yogi’ Muir, with whom it received many upgrades, including a 5-speed dog-leg gearbox, 3.3 litre engine upgrade, and limited-slip diff.

In 1984 Mr Horsley decided to sell the car and he sold it back to Fairfield, who had supplied the car 10 years earlier. For many years it sat on display in the showroom, during this period it was assigned the registration number 70 BMW. After a number of years the director of Fairfield BMW decided to restore the car, his aim was to get the car back to close to new condition. Fairfield’s own bodyshop carried out a bare-metal repaint. Once completed the car returned to its residence on the showroom floor in front of the directors desk for him to admire.

The vehicles next chapter began in 1999, 15 years after it was purchased back from the original owner by Fairfield. A salesman working at Fairfield, who like most BMW enthusiasts had a bit of an obsession for CSL’s, managed to buy the car for himself. He retained the car for around 5 years and during this time the  engine had become a little tired. The decision was made to remove it from the car and fully rebuild it.

This is a car that I sourced in 2012 for a very fastidious collector. Although during his ownership he has used it very sparingly he has certainly not been afraid to spend money on its upkeep. A true enthusiast who has dealt with any niggles he felt necessary. The most recent expenditure has been a glass out repaint at our recommended bodyshop. Offered here for sale having had only 4 registered keepers throughout its 50 year life, all of which have been truly passionate about it.
